詞語用法:
v.(動(dòng)詞)
adjourn的基本意思是“休會(huì); 休庭; 延期”,可用作不及物動(dòng)詞,也可用作及物動(dòng)詞。用作不及物動(dòng)詞時(shí)主語可為會(huì)議、談判、法庭等。用作及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),主語可為主席、委員會(huì)、董事會(huì)等名詞或代詞,賓語則可為會(huì)議、談判、審判、調(diào)查等。
adjourn for可表示“中止某事而去做另一事”; adjourn to可表示會(huì)議等“移到另一房間”或“移到另一處”; 表示“延期至…”則可說adjourn to或adjourn until。
用作動(dòng)詞 (v.) The meeting adjourned till five o'clock.
會(huì)議延至五點(diǎn)召開。
The chairman adjourn the meeting for a week.
主席把會(huì)議延期一周。
The motion to adjourn was carried.
休會(huì)的提議通過了。
The meeting will adjourn sine die.
這個(gè)會(huì)議將會(huì)無限期休會(huì)。
Capitol Hill will adjourn early this year.
美國國會(huì)今年將提前休會(huì)。
