◆curious adj.

1. 表示“好奇的”、“感興趣的”，其后通常介詞 about或不定式。如：

The boy was curious about everything he saw. 這個(gè)小男孩對(duì)他所看到的一切都很好奇。

He’s curious to know what she said. 他想知道她說了什么。

be curious 之后還可接從句，表示“感興趣”，其謂語(yǔ)可用陳述語(yǔ)氣也可用虛擬語(yǔ)氣。如：

They are curious how it is [should be] made. 他們很想知道這是怎么做成的。

2. 表示“奇怪的”、“不尋常的”。如：

I heard a curious noise coming from above. 我從上面聽到傳來一個(gè)奇怪的聲音。

有時(shí)后接從句，其謂語(yǔ)可以用陳述語(yǔ)氣或虛擬語(yǔ)氣。如：

It is curious that he didn’t tell you. 他沒有告訴你，真是奇怪。

It’s curious that he should have asked such a question. 他居然問那樣的問題，真是奇怪。

◆daily adj.，adv. & n.

1. 雖以-ly 結(jié)尾，不僅可用作副詞(意為“每日地”)，而且可用作形容詞(意為“每日的”，通常只用作定語(yǔ))，還可用作名詞( 意為“日?qǐng)?bào)”，可數(shù)名數(shù))。比較：

They are all daily newspapers. 它們都是日?qǐng)?bào)。

Most newspapers appear daily. 大多數(shù)報(bào)紙每天出版。

The story was in all the dailies. 所有的日?qǐng)?bào)都登載過這個(gè)故事。

2. 常見的含有 daily 的報(bào)名：the People’s Daily(人民日?qǐng)?bào))，China Daily(中國(guó)日?qǐng)?bào))，Hunan Daily(湖南日?qǐng)?bào))，Daily Mail(每日郵報(bào))，Daily News(每日新聞)，Daily Mirror(每日鏡報(bào))等。

◆damage n. & v.

1. 用作名詞，表示“損害”、“毀壞”等，是不可數(shù)名詞。如：

The earthquake caused great damage. 這次地震造成了很大的損失。

The heavy rain didn’t do much damage to the crops. 這次暴風(fēng)雨沒有對(duì)農(nóng)作物造成很大的損失。

注：表示以上意義的 damage 是不可數(shù)名詞，其前不能用不定冠詞，也不能有復(fù)數(shù)形式。但是它若表示“價(jià)錢”或“費(fèi)用”，則可以用復(fù)數(shù)形式，若表示“賠償費(fèi)”，則必須用復(fù)數(shù)形式。如：

What is the damage for it? /What are the damages for it?這要多少錢?

We paid 500 dollars to cover the damages. 我們付了500 美元的賠償費(fèi)。

2. 用作動(dòng)詞，表示“損害”、“損壞”，通常及物動(dòng)詞。如：

The bridge was badly damaged by the flood. 那座橋被洪水損壞得很嚴(yán)重。

Smoking will damage your health. 抽煙會(huì)損壞你的健康。

The car was badly damaged when it hit the wall. 汽車撞到墻上，損失得很嚴(yán)重。

◆dance n.

1. 表示“舞會(huì)”、“跳舞”、“舞曲”等，均為可數(shù)名詞。如：

They asked me to a dance. 他們請(qǐng)我參加舞會(huì)。

He composed many dances. 他創(chuàng)作了許多舞曲。

May I have the next dance? 下一曲我可以和你跳舞嗎?

The waltz is a beautiful dance. 華爾茲舞是一種優(yōu)美的舞。

注：dance 表示“跳舞”，通常只表示具體意義的“跳舞” (可數(shù))，而不表示抽象意義或泛指意義的“跳舞”。如：

大多數(shù)女孩子喜歡跳舞。

正：Most girls are fond of dancing.

誤：Most girls are fond of dance.
